Almost every theatre professional that I have encountered has given me some variation of the following wisdom: "So you want to be a theatre artist, eh? Sure you don't want to go into law, or real estate, or dog grooming? No? Well, aside from keeping stock of current events and networking, the biggest advice I'll give you is to see plays, and lots of 'em."
I have come to accept that, for better or for worse, theatre is my language. If I have an idea and want to share it with others, I write it into a play. I communicate my reactions to politics and current events through theatre, just as I find the stage to be a welcoming medium for sharing more personal experiences.
My mission with this blog is simple. I will use it to compile my reactions to the plays I see (most will be here in the Bay Area) and as a forum to discuss what theatre is and what I think it should be. It will be personal, critical, and changing...but never without a purpose. I welcome all thoughts and opinions, even (especially!) from non-theatre folks.
